Different technologies provide different capabilities, different levels of service, throughput, SLA guarantees and something very important to many businesses – £cost. So what is best suited to your business?
Types of connectivity
There are basically a couple of types of connectivity. Shared or dedicated connectivity (leased lines). Many companies purchase ‘shared’ lines as they are unaware that the speeds quoted are ‘up to’ speeds and that this speed is affected by how many other companies on the line at the same time. With a shared line you may experience periods where your connectivity runs slowly. With dedicated lines the speed quoted is guaranteed, as it is only your company using the line and the speed is covered in SLAs.
Broadband that is shared is offered in many different formats, and this is where using an independent supplier means you get the very best from what is available to fit your company set up, rather than what a salesperson is trying to ‘sell’ you.
It is a minefield and trying to wade through to work out what is the best deal for you can take you weeks, because there are so many options and of course all the companies like to make theirs look different to the rest.
Here at HM we take the strain of trying to work out what you really need and then find the best solution. Use our years of experience and understanding of your business and the marketplace to ensure you are getting best fit. We are independent of any company and all our advice is impartial.
Leased lines are ideal for those companies that need guaranteed speeds on connectivity or those who require levels of security that a line that is used only by them provides. If you do most of your transactions online or have an internet based company leased lines may be just what you are looking for.
With leased lines you are able to adjust your usage as your company grows or the number of devices connecting to the internet increases. Whilst you are looking at a premium connectivity solution, you are getting a whole host of ‘extras’ for your money in the form of security, guaranteed speeds and faster upload times.
If you have temporary homeworkers then it may be worth you considering flexible term broadband connectivity, which can be switched off as and when you need to.
